CABLE SUMMARY.
The Board of Trade returns for December show a decrease of imports of £2.286,567, while exports ha~e decreased £1.015,570.
It has been decided to extend the Abu Hamed Railway to El Damer, ou the confluence of the Nile and the Atbara, the lowest of all the Nile tributaries. The statement that the Rhodesian Railway Construction Company has purchased Biera from Portugal is denied. Nine million francs of the Greek revenue have been assigned to the International Financial Commission for the purpose of the foreign loan service.
A West Australian loan of one million at 3 per cent., with the minimum fixed at 95, has been issued in London. Tenders will close on Friday. The United Statas have decided to allow Canadian goods to pass the Alaskan frontier without duties being levied. The death is announced of Dr. Ernest Hart, the well-knewn medical writer on social and sanitary questions, aged 61.
A collision occurred off the Isle of "Wight, between the Atlantic liner Lepanto and the Knight of St. George. The Lepanto sank, but all on board were sared.
During a fire at Hatriok's chemical works, Glasgow, an explosion occurred, resulting in the death of four firemen. Two others were injured by being precipitated from the top to the bottom of the building.
