CRICKET.
ENGLAND V. AUSTRALIA. The second test match between the Englih eleven and the Australian representatives was commenced at Melbourne on Saturday last. The Australians in their first innings compiled 530, and when stumps were drawn on Tue-day the Englishmen had 311 to their credit with eight wickets dou n. The following are the individual scores :
Owing to the heavy rain which fell ye-.terday the match between the Manakau representatives and the Hamilton Club could not be played, but should it be fine to-day a game will take place on Sydney Square between the visitors and a combined Hamilton and Taupiri team. The visitors are naturally disgusted at the lack of anangements made for their receeption, and it will be some time before the members of the Manakau Union are induced to visit Waikato again. Someone certainly has blundered, and there should be some explanation forthcoming as to how the team came forward without any fixtures being settled or arrangements made for their visit.
