FAMILY POISONED.

REPOIITED BY AUSTRALIAN MUTTON. London, August 14. Two children died at Lichfield after eating mutton, alleged to be Australian. A family of seven partook of the joint on Sunday without evil effects. The following day they dined on the mutton cold, and all became ill. The medical evidence showed that the deaths of the children resulted from ptomaine poisoning, which might develop although the most scrupulous care was taken with the meat. The coroner's jury returned a, verdict of death due to ptomaine poisoning, acquitted the butcher who supplied the meat of all blame, and recommended a further analysis of the meat. Messrs Weddel and Co., the wellknown Australian meat importers, are inquiring into the case.
