IxsrwroE OF Police.—lnspector Hickson arrived heie on Wednesday last, and was engaged in departmental business on Tlnusday. He left for Hamilton on Friday.
Pigkox Shootixg.---There is some anxic'y as to whether pigeon shooting is lawful in this district. The gazette makea this a prohibited district, Time has been great blundering in Wellington over this matter.
Queen's JUBlLEE. —Mr Mathias, County Chairman, has convened a meeting for the 8th May to consider wdiat steps shall be taken in ihii matter.
Fatal Accident.—A fata 1 atcid nt occurred on Siturddy morning to a little girl named Dorothy Campbell, daughter of Mr Campbell. The child's nightgown caught fire by some means, and her father and mother hearing the child .scream hastened to her assistance. Mis Campbell wrapped a sack round her and extinguished the (limes. The poor little thing was very badly burnt, and in spite of all that coiild be done f< r her she expired on Sunday night. Great sympathy is felt for the be.caved parents. —(Own Correspondent).
