—» (by telegraph.—OWN correspondent). Auckland, Last Night. Two lots of kauri and totara timber, on the Waitaroto blok, Omapere, totalling about 108,200 superficial feet, were offered for sale at the Survey Office this morning. Both lots were pissed in, but were subsequently disposed of at the upset prices. The K.M.S. Zeakudia, from Sydney, for this port, passed Cape Maria at 10.45 this morning. She should arrive here at about 7 o'clock to-morrow. A sad accident, which occurred early this iiiOrniug at the top of Howe-street, resulted in the death of a lad named Frederick C. Knight, sou of Mr Knight, the proprietor of a butchery establishment in Karangahape Road. The deceased, who is about 18 years of age, was riding a youngish horse near the top of Howe-street and was thrown violently on to the hard road. He received a tcvere wound on the forehead, but the lad was able to rise to his feet and retaiued consciousness. Some bystanders at once went to his assistance and carried him home, where death shortly put an end to his further sufferings. A fire occurred at 2 o'clock this morning in Wakefield-street, and the Zealaodia boarding house, adjacent to the Fitzroy Hotel and occupied by Mrs Herdson, was totally destroyed. The effects were insured in the Royal Office for £2OO. Very little of the furniture was saved. The building was owned by Mr Fi'zgerald, of Parnell, and was insured for £4OO with the New Zealand Insurance Company.
