RESPONSIBILITIES OF MINERS.

Ax cufjuiry into the circumstances attending the death of a man named Devellu, killed by an explosion in tho Waihi-Silverton mine recently, was held to-day, and took the form of a charge against Win. Foster, brought by the Minim; Inspector under section 330 of the Minius Act, 18{)1, which provides that every person employed in a mine on changing shift shall give notice to partics relieving him of unexploded charges or missliots, and that this section had not been complied with by Poster, the consequence being that the accidmt occurred, resulting ill the death of Devclin.
Mr (.ieorgc Wilson, Inspector of Mines, gave evidence that he considered Poster's duty was to warn Parslow of the dangerous hole, and he called Parslow's party and the relief party, although it did not come on for eight hours after Foster left.
Parslow and Benimin abo gave evidence, the latter admitting that Foster told him of the hole, and he took the responsibility to a certain extent of telling Parslow. A tine of 40s and costs was imposed. Matthew B?.rrimin was then charged with not informing the person under whose charge he was of this undischarged hole. His Worship considered Berriman had erred more from good nature in accepting the responsibility, and through forgctfulness in not warning Parslow had laid himself open to a conviction. A line of 00 i and costs was imposed.
