Waiouru, Raetihi should have service centres: Mayor

Waimarino Mayor Garrick Workman told the WCAC last week that there "should certainly" be a district service centre based in Waiouru. A service centre as defined by the Local Government Commission should be "a combined one-stop lo-

cal government service centre ... for citizens ... to get access to the local government system and to be assisted in having needs or requirements met in an efficient manner". Mayor Workman said a service centre was a place- where one could pay rates, make enquiries about subdivi-

sions and town planning applications, register dogs and would prove "the sort of service that the A'GI is providing for the Rangitikei County." Mayor Workman said Waimarino would like to discuss the matter of service centres with Waiouru, considering that only one service centre had been mooted by the Commission. He said Waimarino would also want a service centre established in Raetihi. Mr Workman said he would imagine the AGI would be prepared to continue providing the services offered through a service centre.
