KETETAHI CARPARK THIEVES STILL ACTIVE
Police are warning trampers that it continues to be unsafe to leave cars at the Ketetahi car park, off State Highway 47A. Thcfts from cars parked at the start of ihe Ketetahi hot springs track occur regularly. Recently a couple visiting New Zealand from Noumea returned to their car to find they had been robbed of their passports, cash, clothing, a black suitcase and a grey vanity bag and $500 - $600 worth of travellers' cheques. Another two cars were broken into at the same time and the owners robbed of their stereo/radio, speakers, a tent and a pair of sun glasses. Cars left for very short periods have been known to be hit by the thieves as well as longer stay vchicles. There are alternative arrangements available to trampers leaving cars at the car park, which can be made at the Turangi Information Centre.
