Farmers still closing
Farmers Raetihi is closing this Friday after attempts to persuade the bosses to keep it open failed. Also, proposals put to the Farmers group by shop manager Garrick Workman to lease the shop have not been successful. Mr Workman said it is Cha6e Corpora-
tion's intention to sell the building and that the corporation, which owns Farmers, was not interested in leasing the building. Mr Workman said while he was interested in entering into a lease agreement for the shop and running a similar department store type business, he wasn't prepared to buy the building.
He said he believed he and the petitioners had tried their best to find a way to keep the shop open. Eight other branches of Farmers have also been unsuccessful in their attempts to sway their head office. Mr Workman said it was tragic for Raetihi that the shop, the only department store of its type in the area, should close.
