Charles off to Czechoslovakia
An Ohakune martial arts expert is to represent New Zealand as a member of the country's Open Invitational Team, to compete in the World Invitational Karate Championships in Czechoslovakia next month. Charles Mareikura was
selected along with about 15 other members from around New Zealand to compete in the tournament in Prague on November 19. The group leave New Zealand on November 4 to fly to New York to train for the event.
The group have a full itinerary taking i n tournaments and martial arts seminars in a number of locations, including Los Angeles, Dallas, Hawaii, Amsterdam, and Vancouver. Mr Mareikura is optimistic however, that there will still be time
for sightseeing and shopping in the busy schedule. He has been involved in material arts for the past 18 years and has attained a high degree of skill in Karate, Judo and other systems. Mr Marekura's selection into the team was based on previous per-
formance at major national tournaments around the country. Fifty per cent of the contingent travelling to Prague are from the Wellington district. Mr Mareikura's wife Agnes will be accompanying him on the trip.
