Credit advice booklet available

Mounting concern over the incidence of consumer problems with credit has prompted the production of a credit advice booklet by the New Zealand Federation of Family Budgeting Services.

The booklet provides basic advice on consumer rights, shows how to develop a simple family budget and outlines the differences between various types of credit. Called Managing Your Credit, it has been produced by the Federation with support from VISA New Zealand. Federation President Mr Frank Rogers said

that recent news items have highlighted the dangers some people face when borrowing money without fully understanding the contract they are entering into. Managing Your Credit has been produced to help people understand what is involved in credit contracts and to illustrate the range of credit options that are

available, Mr Rogers said. It provides a simple, step-by-step guide for people who are considering entering into a credit agreement or who need assistance in preparing and following a simple family budget. Managing Your Credit is to be available from budget advisory services.
