Plan withdrawn
A planning application for consent to operate a short stay Hostel, "Kaka Lodge" in Rangataua was withdrawn from recent town planning hearing. The application followed complaints that the lodge was being operated as a boarding house unlicensed. The town planner said, in his report on the application, that neither the Health Inspector or the" Fire Prevention officer were "happy with the buildings
The report stated that there was no provision for hostel or boarding house accommodation in the Rural D Zone of Rangataua. Seven conditions were suggested by the town planner if the application was approved. They covered: the structural engineering of the building; fire safety requirements ; health inspector's requirements; street upgrading; building permits and that no guests be accommodated until a licence is issued.
