Record number of art entries
Entries for this year's Central King Country Visual Arts Trust Award closed on Friday, September 9. At closing date 359 entries had been received as compared with 298 in 1987. There are 224 entries in the painting category (172 last year).
In photography 13 5 entries have been received (108 in 1987). Entries were invited in the King Country section and an open (New Zealand) section. In the King Country section there are 105 painting entries and 56 in photography, a total of 161. The open section has attracted 119 entries for the painting
award and 79 for photography, 198 in all. Entries have been received from all over New Zealand. A significant number have come from the South Island, including Invercargill, Gore and Hokitika as well as from the larger centres. Entries have been s u b m i t tcd from
throughout the North Island leaving no area unrepresentcd. Entries have been sent in by a total of 160 exhibitors a s compared with 129 in 1987. The Secretary Michael Turner said that he was very pleased that this year's award had drawn such
widespread support from throughout New Zealand. "In cstablishing an open section we had no idca how many artists and photographers
would be interested enough to submit work. We are delighted that this innovation has drawn such strong support from exhibitors" he said.
