CHALET SKI THEFTS

Ohakune Police say the manner in which some people safeguard their property is "ludicrous". While the number of incidents of skiers leaving skis unattended on the roofs of cars has declined, the incidence of thefts from chalets has increased. Police Constable Wayne Mills who attended a number of incidents of theft on the weekend, said people who leave their skis outside their chalets overnight are asking for their property to be stolen. The same message is given to skiers time and time again he said, but it seems that not many people are taking notice. There were also several incidents of ski thefts from Turoa Skifields that Police are looking into.
