MOUNTAIN RESCUE EXERCISE

Between 20 and 30 Army, Airforce, Department of Conservation and Mountain staff were planning to take part in an overnight Mountain Rescue exercise on Mt Ruapehu last night. Organisers were fairly tight-lipped about the actual schedule of events as they hoped to keep participants guessing on what was in store for them. What they did say is that the group were to operate out of Whakapapa and work around the top of Mount Ruapehu, near Paretetaitonga Saddle. The party were due to begin training yesterday morning and finish midday today.
