Fortunate win for under 19's

Ohakune Karioi Under 19's narrowly beat Taihape Pirates' three penalty score in

last Saturday's rugby game. Pirates went ahead 30 after an Ohakune forward was offside from the kickoff. Ohakune were soon hard on attack after a lot of pressure from several scrums close to the Pirates' Lines. A. Vallance scored close to the corner from a quick tap penalty taken by S. Philips. M . Dongai converted. Ohakune 6-3. Pirates levelled the score immediately with a penalty from a n offside Ohakune forward. Pirate's forwards were starting to dictate play and kept Ohakune in their half. Pirates were to score again from a penalty when o n c e again a lack of discipline saw a n Ohakune forward offside in a ruck. With a bit more ball Ohakune backs tried to run but their hands let them down. They reverted to kicking but the kicks went too far. D. Waara scored a try from auick follow up work after a Priate Back knocked on in the goal area. Ohakune with the wind at their backs were hot on attack, but Pirates' forwards lifted their game and it was soon evident that Ohakune was not going to have it all their own way. However, the

backs moved the ball out wide and saw both wings have a run for the line. M. Donghi on the right wing scored out wide from good running and handling from the back's. The score was then 14-9 to Ohakune. With five minutes to go Pirates scored under the posts against the run of play, with the help of some very poor tackling from Ohakune. The conyersion was missed letting Ohakune off the hook. Mark Donghi kicked a penalty just before f u 1 1 time g i v i n g Ohakune a rather fortunate win of 17-13. Full credit to a Pirate forward pack who never let up. Bernard Philips was named Ohakune Player of the Day. Ohakune currently second in the combined Wanganui Championship. Ohakune has a bye on Saturday.
