PULP MILL RESERVE LEVY STILL OUTSTANDING
The buyers of the Karioi Pulp Mill are aware of the outstanding reserves levy owed by Winstone Pulp Industries. This was the answer to a question put to District Manager John Murrihy by Finance and Administration Committee Chairman Doug Bennett at their meeting on Wednesday. Mr Murrihy said the council were still clarifying what type of sale was proceeding on the mill. "It depends what exactly they are selling as to where the levy goes," he said. The reserves levy, over $30,000, is owed by the mill owners for the development that was carried out at the mill in 1985. $9 million was the owner's estimate on the cost of the extensions and it is this figure on which the reserves levy is based. Mr Murrihy said if the council doesn't receive the money soon it would have to take steps to ensure it did before the sale went ahead.
