New dimension in Lake Taupo cruising
A new vessel is adding a whole new dimension to winter fun activities on Lake Taupo. The 25 metre catamaran, "Taupo Cat", is an all weather design with modern heated air conditioning making onlake recreation a pleasure all year round. Traditionally Lake Taupo has been a mecca for pleasure boats mainly in summer and for anglers mainly in winter. Taupo Cat's operators, Troutline of New Zealand, aim to change that for the better by encouraging Lake Taupo to become better known as New Zealand's most popular lake for all seasons. Troutline of New Zealand is now actively marketing Lake Taupo as "New Zealand's Great Lake" as well as promoting fun on Taupo Cat all year round. "We've got to make
the very best of the competitive edge the Central North island has over other holiday destinations," said Managing Director Bill Carrig. Taupo Cat is also being keenly promoted to the winter ski market as a fun option. Whiteout weather conditions on the ski slopes create a need for alternative recreation. Taupo Cat's scheduled daily lake voyage of discovery provides a packaged alternative and arrangements are being finalised to enable prebooked groups to load or unload from Taupo Cat at the southem end of Lake Taupo. Local groups and organisations can charter Taupo Cat as a floating venue for meetings and social gatherings. District residents are offered limited winter cruise discounts and special winter charter rates.
