NZR KEEN FOR CLEANUP
Upgrading the platform and driveway of the Ohakune Junction Railway Station is to be considered by Railways. Deputy Mayor Bruce Thompson told the District Council last week he had approached Railways and they appeared to be interested in tidying up the station, but may ask the council for a contribution. The Bulletin spoke to Railways Public Relations Officer Bill Hopper recently about the state of the Junction shunting yards. He said Railways did intend to clean up the yard but that there were no plans to do so in the immediate future. He did not know when the job would start. Much of the Ohakune Junction yard is being used to store material from the electrification and deviation projects. The goods shed at the station is being dismantled by a private individual who tendered for the building and plans to store parts of it for possible later reassembly.
