Builders penalised
A construction company which contracted to complete a job for the Ohakune Borough Council is to be penalised by $4000 for not finishing on time. The company, East-
ern Builders, contracted to finish the work, on the Ohakune Pensioner flats, by March 11, 1988 and was given an extension till March 31, 1988. The job was still not complete when the matter came up at a Turnpage2

From page 1 Waimarino District Council finance meeting on June 8. District Manager John Murrihy advised the council that there was a $400 per week penalty clause in the event of late completion. At the time of the meeting the job was 10 weeks overdue. He asked the
committee if the council wished to impose the penalty. Cr Thompson said there had been other contractors willing to do the job but they didn't get the contract because they couldn't meet the deadline. The builders had not approached the council to ask for a second extension.
