Raetihi staff cuts
All three clerical staff at Elders Pastoral, Raetihi are to become redundant in five week's time. The job losses are a result of restructuring of the company which sees 150 jobs cut around the country and the closure of some small branches. Elders Pastoral Raetihi looses all its female staff, with five male employees remaining. One of the women to leave has been with the company for eleven years, with the other two having served 18 months and 12 months. One of the redundant
staff said last week they were to be offered redundancy packages. She said all staff at the branch were stunned at the news. "This branch is one of the top five in New Zealand as far as profit goes for the amount of staff," she said. "It's not as if we don't have anything to do, we had a great team going here in the office." The clerical work will be done in Wanganui under the restructured operation, she said. Central Regional Manager Brian Wells has said the company was not able to continue passing costs
onto the rural sector, and that there w^sn't the rural business to support the present level of staff.
