RURAL WARD PLANNING CHANGES ON HOLD
Town planner Ted Fox explained the procedure for a planning scheme change introduction at a recent District Council meeting. He said the changes had to be advertised and then each ratepayer affected notified by mail. Objections to the changes would close one month later. If the advertising were to run end of June and objections close end of July the changes would be implemented in September or October, provided there were no objections. It had been suggested the mail out of the notice be put off to coincide with the rate demands, saving postage. Town Planner Ted Fox said he could see no disadvantage for people if the changes were delayed and said if people wished to take advantage of the new rural subdivision policies they could make application to do so. Councillor Dave Griffiths said the original motion expressed urgency but that he didn't mind if the notification was posted with rate demands. However, he would be concerned if they had not been posted by mid July. 700 rural ratepayers will be affected by the c.han?es.
