PIPIRIKI PROPOSAL OK

An accommodation development with hunters and sportsmen in mind was approved by the Waimarino District Council Town Planning Committee last week. To be located about 2km South of Pipiriki near the Wanganui River Road, the development will include caravan parks, cabins and lodges. A road will be built for access to the site, which will follow a stream and gully to the top of a ridge where the lodges will be situated. When discussing the proposal some councillors expressed concern over the road. Their concern was that the council would be responsible for the road and that, as it will be very steep, there would be problems with maintenance. But as it would remain a private road this would not be council' s concern, the committee decided. One of the conditions was that an engineer's certificate be supplied for the road and parking areas. The application was from Watworth Holdings Ltd of Wellington.
