Displeasure

I write to you recording my displeasure at your editorial comment in your paper issue of March 1988. The comments you make about communication I am in agreement with, however I take you to task for masking your attempt to discredit my res-

ponse to your election questionnaire. On the form supplied by your paper, you state unequivocally that the published answers were to appear in the issues of March 8 and March 15 respectively. Instead you make an issue out of non-commu-nication together with published biographical candidates' details o n March 1 issue. As a Councillor of the Raetihi Borough and a Candidate for the ensuing Waimarino district Council, my personal standing is understood by the citizens of the Raetihi constituency. As an honest councillor, I endeavour to meet the criteria and demands made of me, including responding to actions as and when required by due date. To unnecessarily slate my response, given the meridian of your questionnaire time span, perhaps is unjustified. I therefore leave this matter for your reconsideration and reflection. After all the Ward citizens of Raetihi are now unaware of my personal performance or response to demands made of me.

Morris John

Compton

Mr Compton is correct

in that the questionnaire supplied by us stated that the answers would be published on March 8 and March 15. However, after consideration we decided to change those dates to March 1 and March 8, to give voters more time to make their decision.

Several telephone calls were made to Mr Compton' s home and work, and several messages were left advising him of the change in deadline, but, while all other candidates knew of the change, we must give Mr Compton the benefit of the doubt and assume his messages system is at fault.
