Rain misses pony club meet
The Waimarino Pony Club had a most successful weekend of events at Roke's property on 21 and 22 November. The weather was kind in spite of rain only a mile or so away and the 56 participants on Saturday and 36 on Sunday made the most of the competitions. Saturday was the Waimarino Club One Day Event and was run in four classes but the large number of entrants especially in the beginner class had the dressage judge Heather Cooper working for three hours. "Our thanks go tc her and to David Seifert and Ann Roke who also judged dressage plus the many others who helped as cross country fence judges and show jumping judges - in fact everyone who was not riding got a job" said Ohakune Pony Club instructor Evelyn Cooper. Mrs Cooper said that
in future events a further class may be added to encourage the more experienced beginners to move up to a pre-training class. On Sunday the Ohakune Branch completed their tetrathlon with the cross country running and riding phases, which had been postponed from March due to bad weather. . The running was interesting and saw the 1 1 years and under group doing very well over their one kilometre course. Many of the 12 years and over runners including adults, who ran the two kilometre course were struggling, with Kerri Stratford of Kaitieke a comfortable winner followed by Donovan Morris of the Raetihi Branch. At the end of the day the scores from all participants who had completed all four phases were added together to give a branch total which was then divided by the number of
branch participants to give a branch team average. This enabled every member to participate. Results lst Ohakune, average points 1923.33, team members 6; 2nd Raetihi, average points 1856.53, team members 15; 3rd Kaitieke, average points 1657.33, team members 6. While hard working secretary Glenis Betty and helpers were collating the results, Ann Roke judged a Minimus round of show jumping. This had no connection with the Tetrathlon. Competitors choose their own height of jump (no age restrictions) and all those going clear won a rosette of their choice. Purple and pink were popular! Rallies will continue within both branches until December when Raetihi will be hosting a competition weekend. This is a change from the 5 and 6 December date which was originally planned. On Saturday 19 December a Show Hunter (jumping) competition will be held and on Sunday the Waimarino Club Dressage Day, both at Raetihi Showgrounds. Both events are open to all riders and enquiries should be made to the
Raetihi Secretary, Mrs Marie Allerby.
