LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Are you being hassled about your grass verges in Raetihi? Well I am. It was us who top soiled and grassed the mess outside our property because of the large holes and bald patches caused by people not using the footpath on a corner section, NOT, I repeat NOT caused b y horses. It seems to me if nobody lived here the council wouldn't have jobs. Most of us live here because we love the country life and love animals. Well, why not. What else does the council provide for our children to keep them out of trouble? It seems to me the council have a personal vendetta on children with horses. The council vehemently say the dirt from your fence to the road belongs
to them. So tenants, don't mow it, leave it for them to keep tidy. And if they don't, give the editor your complaint. Maybe it's time the council spent less time worrying about the very tidy parts of 6ur town, kept that way by tenants, and more time cleaning up all entrances to our town that are seen by tourists, including the disgusting mess around their own county depot. Or an amendment to the by-law giving tenants the option of doing as they please with their grass verges as long as they maintain them and keep them mowed and that includes tethering one or two horses. Come on community, we pay exorbitant rates, and we have rights too. Country Living
