Lions' auction Saturday
Carpets, cutlery, clothing or cisterns: whatever unwanted household items you may have lying around cluttering up garage or shed, will be gratefully accepted by the Ruapehu Lions Club.for sale at their auction this Saturday. The auction to be held at the former Hurlstones' depot on Old Station Road, is to raise funds for the Ohakune and Raetihi Volunteer Fire Brigades, to purchase additional training equipment for Ohakune and a pair of hand-held radios for Raetihi. The 'Resusciannie' mannequin used for mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and
CPR training costs around $3000 and will be available for use by other community organisations such as St Johns and Red Cross as well as the Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade for training purposes. The multi-band radios cost between $2000-$3000. The auction is one of the Lions' non-mandatory community projects; a similar fund raising auction was held in 1985 to help equip the area's rescue helicopter with up-dated rescue gear. Lions Club members will be distributing circulars within the Waimarino this week, asking the public to donate items for auction. Items will be collected by members of both brigades and Lions all this week. Auctioning of goods starts promptly at 10am, so bargain hunters are advised to arrive on time.
