Ozanam appeal results pleasing
Ruapehu Lions are pleased with the response from Waimarino people to their phone appeal for Ozanam House last week. Thirty-two Lions blanketed the district and reported a good response from the public, most of whom were aware of the function of Ozanam House. The appeal was to raise money for extensions to the building, where cancer patients receiving therapy at Palmerston North Hospital and their relatives may stay during treatment. The house offers patients and their families comfortable motel-like accommodation at low cost. The new six-bedroom wing is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Donations and phone pledges may be dropped into chemists and B N Z branches in Raetihi and Ohakune or given directly to Lions members. A total was not available at the time the Bulletin went to print. Over $700 was collected in Ohakune for Braille week, at the beginning of November, the largest amount ever collected in the area. The Ruapehu Lions, who organised the collection in Ohakune, were thrilled with the door-to-door appeal total.
