Ohakune-Karioi's title slips away

The OhakuneRaetihi fans had a feast of rugby over the weekend with some losses and some wins. Raetihi Senior Reserves lost to the Huia Senior Reseryes 16-14. Their points came from an excellent baek try from Edward Taura, a try from William McDonnell who came off the back of the scrum and two penalty goals by Darren McDonnell. Hoppy Hiroti is a fine general behind the scrum and is one of the best examples of an older experienced player, helping the younger inexperienced players in the team. His departure after injury was noticeable. The forwards were better than the Huia forwards but the typical Raetihi attitude of playing the game up front probably lost them the game when they made little use of that exciting young

backline. Darren McDonnell left the field through injury with Fraser Edmonds missing four penalty attempts. s They were unlucky to lose. Over in Taihape, Ohakune Senior Reserves outgunned Utiku Old Boys Senior Reserves in very muddy conditions. The forwards set up excellent ball for the penetrating backline who had a field day.
