Rugby with "Lineout"

Veteran prop Noel Akapita played an excellent game as did S. Pickery and M. Ryan in the backs. Score 22-8. The Ohakune- Under-19 team lost to Technical College Old Boys 14-10 a result which must certainly please their coaches. They

led 6-0 at half time and points came from tries from O. B. Vallance and Jason Heam. M ark Donghi converted. On S aturday Ruapehu College first fifteen played Wanganui Boys College who are currently on tour. The Wanganui boys, including much talked about Andrew Kaua were far too classy for the Waimarino boys. The final score was an unbelievable 103-0 to Wanganui. Jason Haitana played an excellent game for Ruapehu winning seven tightheads from the heavier, well drilled opposing forward pack. Raetihi Seniors may never win a game if they persist in playing their typical style of rugby. They have a bunch of players who are as good as the Ohakune side with natural flair but coach Parr is disappointed that they will not co-ordinate this talent into a team effort. It has been said that few

of them in fact need a good swift kick in the pants because they tend to play rugby for themselves not for the team. The forwards did not concentrate on setting up 'the ball for their backs, some were getting lazy and the backs lost a couple of tries by holding on too long on the overlap. Thomas Waara must get out and practice his kicks. Criticism of his kicking should make him more determined, not make him hand over the duties to someone else. Saturday's game was a boring affair with Raetihi forwards being outgunned by Technical College Old Boys. Raetihi lost 7-0. After sitting in with the

Ohakune Senior lot it seems convincing that they are relieved of the pressure of striving to maintain their leaders position in the championship. Marist played as a unit on Saturday with better driving and mauling as well as lineout work but the Ohakune scrums were better. Kerry O'Hara dictated play against Ohakune's efforts and he gave Lachlan Harding a lot of work by kicking it at Harding who retaliated very well. Ray Brown played his usual excellent game as did Pike, Cameron and Hipango. Ohakune Senior lost to Marist 27-12. Steve Cameron scored a try and two penalties to Harding.
