Horopito hosts trials ride
The inaugural Horopito Snowman Motorcycle Trial was held at Berry's Farm recently. The event, organized by Alaistair Gray from Horopito and Fred McKelvey, attracted 22 riders from around the North Island. New Zealand's number one trials rider Andrew Clement won the competition, receiving one of the trophies which were models of penguins dressed up as snowmen. The object of trials riding is to make it through each
of the sections of a marked course without incurring fault points. A clear round would be marked zero points, with the rider having kept within the course pegs and not putting a foot on the ground. . The course was set out by Alaistair Gray and Fred McKelvey. The prizes for the trial, which were motorcycle accessory supplies, were donated by Machinery Supplies of Ohakune and Freds Panel Shop and Dekker Machinery of Raetihi. The organizers say they will definitely run the event again next year as well as a summer trial.
