King Country Visual Arts Trust praised
The MP for Tongariro, Mr Noel Scott, has applauded the initiative and imagination that put together the Central King Country Visual Arts Awards. "There are an enormous number of talented people in the area," said Mr Scott,
"and when they join forces, they will not only raise the sights of the local community, but also make a real impact nationally." Mr Scott 's comments came after he had seen the eyecatching — This Is Visual Arts Country — billboard on the outskirts of Taumarunui. I The Visual Arts T rust was ' established last year with the well-known New Zealand artist, Peter Mclntyre, as patron. $14,000 will be offered by the Trust in the 1987 inaugural Awards which will be held at Taumarunui in November. "This is a very lively region with a community which sees itself as more than just a quiet rural area, and the potential for development of the Central King Country as a result of the Art Awards programme is spectacular," Mr Scott said. 'Visual Arts Country' is loosely bordered by Pureora Forest Park, Upper Wanganui River, Tongariro National Park and Western Shores of Lake Taupo.
