Letter to the Editor

Nuclear Despair Whatever are the New Worlders suggesting? I refer to the New World supermarket advert in the Bulletin of Tuesday 19 May. In it a picture of a man looking suspiciously like President Reagan appears on a screen fenced across by jagged streaks of light and he says, according to the caption, "Use it before it's too late" — referring to a bonus coupon book. Are they implying that the world will soon be ravaged by a nuclear catastrophe so we'd better stock up with provisions now? They're doing a great job at New World Ohakune, selling groceries but we don't want them to sell us nuclear despair as.well.
