Whakapapa prices

Carparking fees at Whaka-papa will be incorporated into the cost of skiing ticket prices as from this year. Tongariro National Park senior ranger Graeme Ayres said the fees will not be collected directly from drivers as in the past due to a cutback in staffing numbers. Mr Ayres said Ruapehu Alpine Lifts and the THC Chateau Tongariro will be levied to cover the carparking expenses. An adult day skilift pass at Whakapapa will cost $30 this year and a child's will cost $14.

Patients at Waimarino Hospital have something to smile about, thanks to a recent donation from clientele of the Ohakune Club. President of the Club, Ces Allerby, presented a cheque for $172 to Principal Nursing Officer Sister Betty Longcroft last week. The money was the culmination of many small donations made by regulars at the club. Mr Allerby explained that small change is collected in a tin on the bar and when it is full the money is given to a worthy organisation. "A lot of people think that the club is just for boozing when really there's a lot that goes on

other than drinking," he said. Sister Longcroft said the money will be used "for the pleasure of the patients", to make hospital stays more comfortable.
