Fiji tour for College team

Since September, the Ruapehu College girls' basketball team have been participating in all manner of fundraising activities for their trip to Fiji in April when they will take part in the annual Easter Club Tournament there. A team of 10 players and three supporters will make the trip which involves a busy 1 2-day itinerary, including five days of competition. Around 60 teams from Australia, Fiji and New Zea-

land take part in the tournament each year, the 1987 tournament being held at the Laucala Bay University in Suva from 10-22 April. Fundraising ventures by the team have included running discos, raffles, games evenings and a fashion parade. Future activities planned before they leave for the tournament include a 'Baton's Up' evening, disco, fashion parade and basketball tournament, the proceeds going towards funding the trip.

To date, the team have raised $3 1 28, with a target of $14,400 in their sights. Team players are MoanaJane Brown, Sandrena Phillips, Sheryl Mateara, Melissa Brown, Tania Hibbard. Kaylene Saunders, Tania Hinana, Toots Brown (chaperone), Elaine Vine (coach), Bubs Hibbard (manager/chaperone); and supporters Uta Murphy-Peehi, Sue Hardwidge and Bella Hardwidge.
