Queens Medal

An annual shooting competition that has been held every year in Waiouru sir.ce 1969 enjoyed the same immense popularity last December. The Queen's Medal Competition, formerly named the King's Medal during the reign of King George V, was held in the first week of December. Those eligible to compete were all servicemen in the New Zealand Army — both regular and territorial force.

Elimination rounds were held earlier in the year and the top 40 competitors met in Waiouru to shoot. The coveted Queen's Medal was this year won by Lance Corporal J. D. Lawrence, who also won the competition's Trentham Rosebowl prize. The Lewis Trophy was won by Cpl. R. T. Tautuhi; Vicar's Trophy — Lft. J. A. Roil; Army Cup — Staff Sgt. M. A. H. Gillice; Waiouru RSA Shield — Staff Sgt. M. A. H. Gillice; School of Infantry Trophy — Pt. M. J. O'Conner.
