Police File

Ohakune Police enjoyed a quiet week and equally non-eventful weekend while all the action seemed to be taking place in Raetihi. Raetihi Police arrested and later released a resident for breaching the peace at the Ruapehu Hotel during the weekend. ★ ★ ★ A local man was arrested on charges of common assault, possession of an offensive weapon and two charges of intentional damage also at the Ruapehu Hotel over the weekend. The 25 year old labourer will be appearing in the Ohakune District Court on Thursday 29 January. ★ ★ ★ The Farmers Trading Company in Seddon Street, Raetihi, was the target of burglars twice last week. Overnight T uesday, between the hours of 1 1pm and 1am on Wednesday morning, offenders got away with a

quantity of clothing after gaining access to the building by hurling a rubbish tin through one of the shop's plate glass windows. A second such window was broken in the same manner between midnight and 3am Saturday morning, with more clothing and a Radio-cassette player valued at $600 stolen. The total damage resulting from both incidents is around $3000, according to Raetihi police Constable Trevor Pullen. Raetihi Police are interested in hearing from anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity or has some knowledge of either of the incidents. Manager of FTC, Raetihi's Mayor Garrick Workman, said he believes the same person or group of people committed both tbefts and that those involved or who know something will speak up. Mr Workman said he has asked Borough Officials to secure the rubbish tin that is positioned outside the shop in Seddon Street. Measures have also been taken to upgrade the shop's security system to prevent further incidents. Mr Workman said it is difficult at this stage to know exactly how much stock was stolen until staff have run a stock check.
