Christchurch medals for Turoa Tumblers

Four Turoa Tumblers' gymnasts brought home four medals from the National Gymnastics Championships at Christchurch in the weekend. Allen Prince of Raetihi competed in the national open grade and won a team silver medal. Dean Drayton of Rangataua won a team bronze medal in the national youth grade. He was placed second on the vault and second on the floor, and also selected for the TVNZ Milo junior gymnast of the year competition. Suzanne Mcllroy of Ohakune competed in grade 2 and did well to finish 14th out of 43 gymnasts. Carys Hubbard of Ohakune took part in grade 3 and won the individual silver medal for second place out of 61 entries. She was individually placed first on the floor and third on the uneven bars. She was also selected for the apparatus final in which she won a silver medal for second place on the floor. Turoa Tumblers are building up to the open mixed teams gymnastic competition on 20 September as part of the annual Vegymski weekend. All four gymnasts who travelled to Christchurch will be there as well as current New Zealand champions recently competing at the Commonwealth championships at Glasgow.
