Ladies Rugby Entertains
Rugby fans had their fill over the weekend, with two curtain-raisers before the highlight of the afternoon - the Golden Oldies rhatch. Women's rugby featured first, with Ohakune pitted against Raetihi in a very novel match. Ohakune led at half time with a score of 8-0, with tries by Michelle Coley and Liz Poka, and an attempt at a conversion by Kourty Wilson. Ohakune declared that the ball had in fact made it, but that the goal had jumped out of the way at the last moment. Raetihi came back in the second half and emerged the victors with a convincing 208 win. Raetihi's tries were scored by Tania Hinana, who also converted the try, and Margey Berry. The senior division game with Ohakune Marae against Raetihi's senior A team saw Ohakune fighting a tough battle but winning their game 12-10. Players locked in battle and played a hard, fair game, with both teams playing in good spirits.
