Charity golf tourney raises useful sum

A cheque for $1000 was donated to the St. Dominic's School for the Deaf by the Ruapehu Lion's Club after their charity golf tournament on Thursday. A fairly small field of 50 took part in the tournament, but it was still a successful day. About 70 people atended a banquet afterwards put on by Brian Dowsett at the clubrooms. Because of support from the public and businesses in Raetihi and Ohakune, there was a wide range of prizes from most shops in the area. Cash donations went i towards running the tour-

nament and to help make a financial gain from it. Father Neal Wilson accepted- the cheque on behalf of the Feilding school. An eight-year-old Ohakune girl, Denise Waerea, attends the school. The tournament is held every two years to raise funds for the school. Top place-getters in the tournament were: Stableford. Men: J. Hammond 41, J. Ennis 41, K. McDougall 38, S. Swarbrick 38, G.
