It's chimneycleaning time

Recent chilly days and nights turn our thoughts towards the coming cold of winter, and to ways of keeping warm. People are gathering and stacking wood, and smoke is appearing from chimneys. However, according to Max Martin, of the Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade, there is always the danger of chimney fires when chimneys are dirty. "We usually get quite a run of chimney fires at the beginning of winter when it all of a sudden gets cold and people light their fires," he said. He said that chimney cleaning is particularly important for enclosed, slow-combustion fires, which anyway should be cleaned frequently. Carbon from the fires dries out and soon ignites. So,_come on Waimarino residents. Get up on the roof before it gets too cold and clean those chimneys!
