Flat-Hills open day
On 23 February the public will have a chance to look over the Flat-Hills Woolshed and Farmyard tourist development at Ohingaiti, on State Highway One, 25 kms south of Taihape, when an open day and country fair will be held. The Flat-Hills complex consists of a country-style tearooms and restaurant specialising in New Zealand food, a shearing and wool museum, with regular shearing demonstrations, and the farmyard with a picnic area, collection of old farm machinery and a display of farm animals. During the open day there will be a variety of attractions with many local organisations setting up fundraising activities and stalls to give the day a real country fair atmosphere. Included in the activities will be a merry-go-round, three-wheeler motor bike rides, a Master Flat-Hills Farmer and a Miss FlatHills Farmer fancy dress contest, veterans' shearing contest, helicopter rides and a greasy pig contest. Admission is free and the gates will be open from 7am to 8pm.
