Irirangi rugby officers
Lieutentant-Comman-der Richard Jackson, new commander of HMNZS Irirangi, was elected as patron of the Irirangi Rugby Football Club at the recent annual general meeting of the club. At the same time Mr A1 Wheeler, a well-known rugby refereeing personality in the area, was elected as president. Mr Wheeler is also the Irirangi RFC delegate to the Northern Wanganui subunion which administers rugby in the Northern Wanganui region, and has now given up refereeing in favour of the presidency. Other officers are: Mr Wayne Sutton, treasurer, Miss Sue Peters, secretary, and manager Mr Bro Smith. Continuing as coach this season is Mr Dayma Herewini. He took his first step into senior coaching last season and prior to that he had coached schoolboy rugby. However, he did such a good job last year he has been reelected to the position. The team's home ground is Thorn Park, 10 kilometres south of Waiouru, and the team are hoping to organise a pre-season match with Kawerau United, said expresident of the club, Don Pickerill. Last year the team were sponsored by Pine Tree Motors, of Waiouru and it is hoped that this sponsorship will continue.
