GOLF

Waiouru Golf Club's major tournament of the year, the Mountain Classic, was held on Saturday with a field of 120 players. For the fourth consecutive year, Neil Gaskin from Levin was the major prizewinner. Mr Gaskin is a representative of the Mana-watu-Wanganui Golf Association. Waiouru ladies competed well with Georgie Davis, who has had a handicap for only three weeks, winning the open nett and Marg Rogers the open stableford. Other results of the 36-hole tournament were: Runners-up — oper gross, Bob Laming (Miramar); open nett, Lewis June (Turangi); open stableford, Graham Moore (Trentham). Mens: A Grade — gross, Steve Milroy (Turangi); nett, Jim Gibb (Taupo); stableford, Dave Morgan (Paraparaumu). B Grade — gross, Pricey Williams (Taihape); nett, Les Kereama (Linton); stableford, Peter Burrell (Lochiel). C Grade — gross, Alan Healey (Waiouru); nett, Sonny Melbourne (Waiouru); stableford, Errol Stuart (Maranui). Ladies silver: gross, Lois Jones (Lochiel); nett, Nan Gray (Otaki); stableford, Moana Johnson (Turangi). Ladies bronze: gross, Joan McCarty (Turangi); nett, Moana Anderson (Taupo); stableford, R. Izett (Turangi).
