Surprises for Ngamatea

The children of Ngamatea School had more than one exciting surprise at their Christmas concert recently. Out of the sky came Lisa Patterson in her Wanganui Aero Work helicopter to issue each child with their crew member certificates and talk to the children about search and rescue. Lisa helped the chairman of the school committee, Robert Manson, to present each child with a gift from the school committee. Brendan Morris won the cup for the best overall pet at the school's pet day and Jessica Brown the junior pet day cup. Awards for the recent

rural athletics sports were also presented. All pupils of the school performed the story of Silent Night to the large audience. The story was told by Belinda Hounsel and Anita McDonnell sang solo while the story was being read. The children also read poems and sang Christmas carols which the audience joined in. The final item for the evening was the Christmas story in which all the pupils dressed up and played a part. When they sang 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas', Father Christmas arrived and gave everyone lollies, which was the other surprise for the children.
