National Park School year

One of the highlights of the year for pupils of National Park School was 10 days skiing on Whakapapa Skifield. Time for the ski programme was given by the Wanganui Education Board, Ruapehu Alpine Lifts donated lift tickets, Top O' the Bruce donated ski hire and mountain transport was donated by Ruapehu Transport Limited. Fundraising and raffles paid for the cost of ski lessons. Two senior classes also enjoyed a tour of the Taranaki energy projects during November, staying at maraes and in a lodge on Mt. Taranaki. At Patea Marae the pupils were entertained by the Patea Maori Club and in return they also performed. Juniors, from new entrants to standard two, visited Taupo during the year where they saw the honey and craft centres and Swam in the AC Baths. The junior syndicate also visited Avonlea Rest Home in Taumarunui where they entertained the residents with a Christmas concert and provided afternoon tea. During the last week of the year, form two pupils were farewelled and Christmas parties were held with Father Christmas and two fairies attending courtesy of Waikune Prison.
