SKI REPORT
Turoa Skifields close today but the snow keeps falling. Yesterday, there was snow down to the 1 2 kilometre mark, said Turoa's Andy Chapman. "It's very much like the beginning of the season, it's got that June-July feeling about it," he said. Turoa was closed on Saturday due to strong northwesterly wind but, although
there was limited visibility on Sunday, the field opened and there was good skiing on the trails due to Saturday night's fresh snow. About 600 people visited Turoa over the weekend. Whakapapa Skifield stayed open throughout the weekend, despite poor weather. Park ranger, Paul Dale said that about 800 people visited the slopes on Saturday and about 700 on Sunday. He said there were several cases of skiers having very sore eyes and snow blindness because they were not wearing adequate glasses. Yesterday morning there was five centimetres of new snow at iWikau Shelter and it was still moving. Whakapapa closed for the season on Sunday.
