Dear Sir, Last week, in an open letter to Ohakune councillors, ratepayers sent a petition to council in the only way available to them. The feeling still being expressed by some councillors that the colossal increase in the rates, and the manner in which it was served, was correct and properly managed, is still disturbing. Raetihi and the county, who don't have vast numbers of new buildings helping to swell their ratetake, managed a sane and rational increase substantially less than twenty per cent. Out-of-control spending is not solved by creating out-of-control rate increased. Recent council proposals for more spending in and around the Ohakune Council chambers, together with staff increases in the face of am^lgamation, makes one wonder as to the desperate need for such spending and its priority, and why the lemming determination to further bolster the administration monster. Concerned ratepayer A copy of the petition referred to was received by the Bulletin. It was unsigned and, as with any unsourced document, was not published.
