Packing their gumboots

Ohakune Borough Councillors will pack their gumboots tomorrow and travel to Owhango to inspect the town's water treatment plant. The visit is a fact finding mission as Ohakune Borough Council has been told by the Health Department to improve its water supply. It will be necessary for the town's water to be filtered and disinfected. Currently the town's water falls well below World Health Organisation standards. Improving the water supply will cost approximately $ 1 50,000-$200,000, but the council may be able to obtain a 35-40 percent government subsidy to help pay for the project. Mayor of Ohakune, Bill Taylor, writes about the town's water supply on page four.
