Work to begin soon on new hotel for Ohakune?
Construction work on a forty room hotel at Turoa Alpine Village may begin at the end of this month. Fletcher Development and Construction Ltd of Palmerston North is presently advertising for carpenters to work on the hotel complex, which is likely to take one year to complete. However, a final decision as to whether or not the project will go ahead has yet to be made. Mr Don Henry of Fletcher Development and Construction, said that his company's clients would make a decision "hopefully within the next two weeks." Construction work on the hotel, if it goes ahead, will create about twenty jobs. It was in March of this year that Auckland-based company, Optima International Ski Lodge Limited,
applied for a tourist house premises licence in respect of land situated at ihe entrance to the Turoa Alpine Village. The site was formerly owned by Club Turoa, which was unable to continue with the construction of their proposed building due to financial problems.
